The Chosen Two

Out of the box, the iPhone has just two free gaps available on the first page of the dashboard (application launcher). Unless you move things around, the bottom row will start with iTunes and end with App Store, but what comes next? Over the last few months my chosen two has included Evernote, iPlayer, Record, Tuner, Fieldrunners and the ever popular iChalky! However, in the last couple of weeks I’ve settled upon Twitterrific and Wikipanion. Of the ninety or so extra applications on my iPhone it’s these two that I want to find the quickest.

I have a feeling this particular chosen two will be hard to budge! What two extra applications have you promoted to the first screen of your iPhone?

    Well you could make it three – I mean, does anyone actually use Stocks?! You don’t even need it nowadays – just assume they’re still going down!

    Good grief. Only two? I’ve bumped Maps, Stocks, YouTube and iTunes (both needing wifi, which I rarely see during the day) off the first page for eWallet, Things, NetNewsWire, BeeJive and Facebook. However, I’ve just purchased Noise.io Pro and playing with that so much I’ve given that a temporary Home page position in place of Calculator. Also, my Phone app is in the bottom bar and SMS on the page actual.

    I can’t bring myself to move any of the standard apps, I fear I may upset the balance of the force! In truth, I use all the Apple apps daily, yes even Stocks.

    I was looking at Noise.io, it looks great, but is the learning curve steep?

    No the learning curve isn’t that steep, though I suppose it depends how deep you want to get. It’s surprisingly intuitive. I’ve been playing with it a while now and am blown away by what it can do, though admittedly I’ve only been playing around with the supplied presets and not created any of my own. I’m looking forward to the update that provides export to Beatmaker.

    My chosen one is Advanced English Dictionary. I can’t live without it. It’s quite special, it can show how the words connected to each other and it contains a lot of technical terms. Beautiful, polished, entertaining, sometimes a life saver.

    That looked interesting until I saw their definition of BMI in their screenshots. Seeing the error there made me wonder about the rest of the app (perhaps mixing up imperial and metric in the formula. If using imperial, it should be weight x 703). Also, I’m not convinced it wouldn’t all be Americanised anyway.
