Carnival of the Mobilists #151
Judy Breck at Golden Swamp is hosting the latest Carnival. It features some great writing on the future of mobile, especially “The iPhone and Android Platforms as Validators“, showing how both platforms are developing.
There’s also a post from AAi’s James Burland on adding Genuis-style recommendations to the App Store. A genius idea, in my opinion
Next week’s Carnival will be hosted right here at All About iPhone.
Carnival of the Mobilists #148
Just a quick one to mention that the latest Carnival of the Mobilists is up over at MOpocket. Some very interesting posts as usual, including an entry from All About iPhone.

Carnival of the Mobilists #146
A quick heads up: the latest Carnival has been published at London Calling. Some excellent posts as ever, especially some technical notes on mobile video call quality. And the Post of the Week? Look no further than All About iPhone’s thoughts on the Nokia 5800
Many thanks Andrew.
Carnival of the Mobilists #136
A warm welcome all, to this week’s Carnival. Make a mug of tea, get your comfy slippers on, and settle in, because we have some treats for you.
Carnival of the Mobilists 132 is out
I’m a bit late on this one, but there are some great reads as ever. One article of interest to iPhoneistas should be Igor Faletski’s post about the 3G lifestyle. He writes about how his new iPhone is essentially a digital multimedia portal, and that in hours of usage, he hadn’t made a single telephone call.
The level of non-telephone use will come as no surprise to people toting other HSDPA-tastic devices. But, what really comes through in his writing is the seamless nature of the connectivity, coupled with ease of use of the device.
Also, Krisse at All About Symbian has the Post of the Week with “Have you seen what budget phones can do now?“. For all the hype with the iPhone 3G, some budget handsets outstrip it in pure hardware terms, and the software features are often very impressive. Apple will need to keep up the pace of iPhone development, lest it be overwhelmed by a tidal wave of feature rich “budget” smartphones.
The Carnival is up at Mippin Blog
Carnival of the Mobilists #125
It’s my first crack at hosting the Carnival of the Mobilists, so if you’re new around here, hello! There are just a few posts for the Carnival this week, but often, less is more. So for your reading pleasure I present:
–
First up: James at mjelly asks “Is wholesale mobile data about to take off?”. Essentially, can the content provider pay the carriers for the data consumed by the end user? Coming soon after Vodafone’s annoucement of 500MB of free data for every contract customer, James nicely thinks around removing the barrier of cost, and whether carriers’ backend systems can even cope.
The Carnival and the Boom!
Round here, we’re a big fans of Booms! They’re often found in Steve Jobs’ keynote presentations, heralding new things that you never knew you needed before, but have to get right now.
This week’s Carnival at mobilejones also focusses on the Boom! – this time in mobile data and the always-on lifestyle. As well as once again featuring yours truly*, it’s a good read, and there are a couple of complementary posts about mobile data usage.
(1) Chetan Sharma looks at the numbers, showing mobile data is taking off in the US
http://www.chetansharma.com/blog/2008/04/11/mobile-data-the-state-of-the-union/
(2) C. Enrique Ortiz looks at the confluence of factors as to why this is happening
Basically, the networks are getting there and the handsets are getting there. As awareness of the possibilities of the connected lifestyle rises, so does (data) usage.
*It’s getting a bit self-referential round here, so I’ll step up the frequency of posts.
Carnival of the Mobilists #117
The latest Carnival is available over at mobilestance.com, and I’m honoured that Jamie has chosen my post on iPhone gaming as the Post of the Week.
Check out the Carnival at http://mobilestance.com/2008/03/31/carnival-of-the-mobilists-117-is-here/
I suppose I’d better hurry up and write some more
Carnival of the Mobilists 110 is out
It’s both customary and very cool for me to be able to let you know that All About iPhone is featured in this week’s Carnival of the Mobilists. You can find the latest Carnival hosted at Mobile Messaging 2.0.
My favourite post of the week? Ajit Joakar of Open Gardens has some thoughts about building a Mobile Multimedia Twitter. I’m a big fan of reading my friend’s status updates – it’s a low-impact way of keeping in touch. Now what if media organisation started video twittering as well? Lots to think about there.
