I can’t help but think however that there must be an extraordinarily good reason for it. I think it was Will Harris on this week’s TWiT who summed it up nicely, when he said that Apple don’t want anything to hinder the iPhone’s awesome user experience, it is after all, at the very heart of what Apple does best.

Personally, I think there are several points that must be considered here.

1. Some applications may be given runtime amnesty, AIM comes to mind.

2. 1st party apps will continue to multi-task, not just the ones Apple have already provided, but also all future apps. Hence, all the phone functions, email, web, and iPod stuff will be ready to go at a moments notice.

3. For the majority of 3rd party applications, a rapid save/load state procedure should be enough to satisfy many average users.

I guess only time will tell if Apple SDK decisions are the correct ones.
