Andy has some experience with F1 and has picked up both good and bad points to this app; overall it’s a considered piece. I’m not interested in posting unjustified diatribes on the site, but where a reviewer has legitimate concerns about an application, I welcome their views.

Thanks for specifying your objections – difficult to respond otherwise.

I did mention the problems in the data that I spotted, including spelling mistakes. To my mind, a reviewer has an obligation to point out the problems found as well as the plus points. When it’s a review of an app whose purpose is, at least partially, as a reference, then mistakes in the information are all the more important and should certainly be reported. If the spelling mistakes don’t concern you, then of course you are free to ignore them but it’s the job of a reviewer to report them, giving the reader that choice.

The mention of the spelling mistakes took up one sentence of the review (“Veteran driver Rubens Barrichello’s name is listed on one screen as ‘Barruchello’ and ‘Barrichelo’ on another”). I wouldn’t say that constitutes ‘waffling on’ but perhaps your definition differs from mine :)

I do say at the end that I’d be reluctant to recommend this app even if it was free. I’m not sure how this makes me a cheapskate though. If I was a cheapskate, then surely I’d be more likely to recommend it if it was free, wouldn’t I? Whether or not I am a cheapskate, does that negate the problems I found in the app?

Again, I’m sorry if you felt my review didn’t give you the information you needed to decide whether this app would be of interest to you.

Andy.

He waffles on about spelling mistakes (big deal) – and then tells you he wouldn’t even recommend it if was FREE !!

Hahaha, talk about cheapskate! Would you also like the moon on a stick free of charge?

Good to know a bit about the reviewers background too, so one has a feel of what you’re looking for in the app. I wouldn’t listen to the critics here, too often people review products from the developers perspective and end up waving away the flaws with some weak “well if you like F1 statistics you’ll like this app”, rather than using it as a regular person with an interest in F1 would.

I was hoping it said something about my point of view – rather important to get the most from the review, I think.

After using the app quite extensively, I believe I gave an objective overview of it. I’d be interested to hear what you think I said that was inaccurate or unfair.

The first 4 paragraphs are all about yourself – that really says something….
