App Review: Speed Fiend

speedfiend[My friend Jason sent me his thoughts on a little game he really likes. People’s reviews and opinion prices are always welcome!]

Matt, I came across an app and thought you might like a quick review. It’s for a card game called Speed Fiend. It’s simple to play yet good fun and highly addictive.

The object is to get rid of your cards before your opponent. You both start with 22 cards, 5 of which are turned face up.The remaining cards form 2 discard piles with 2 of the cards face up.

speedfiendscreenshotTo ‘play’ your cards you simply drag them onto of the discard pile in numerical sequence (e.g. on a 7 you can play a 6 or an 8 – on aces you can play Kings or Twos). Tapping on your pile of unseen cards fills the gaps your plays leave behind.

As you work through the levels the computer gets quicker. The free version gives you the first 4 levels and single player mode – can’t argue with that. But it wasn’t long before I parted with 59p of my hard earned and got the full version.

It’s well worth it for the next 5 levels – faster, faster – and the addition of two-player action. It’s great fun as you’re literally head-to-head wrestling over the device and frantically trying to play your cards before your opponent.

[Well there you go. One happy customer. I did ask Jason if there’s anything he disliked about the game, or anything that could be improved, but he said “Nope, really like the game, and what more can you expect for 59p?”. Fair enough! – Matt]
